I dont know how to get friends on my yahoo account:(...?

i dont wanna ask all my friends if they have a yahoo acount...i just want it to be like facebook..like look up the name and add them...but instead i have to know their email first & last name..and i still dont even know what to do and i feel like a retard..:(...but yaaa can somebody out there give me some advise on hoe to add people to my contacts??
