Hormone mediated pathway explanation?

For extra credit in my bio cl I need to find an explanation or diagram online about hormone mediated pathways. It's supposed to explain how the receptors interact with the hormone(s) and how the binding of the hormone is transmitted through the cell to make something happened. The instructor said it's not actually relevant to us because we won't know what it means. So I did a search and I'm not exactly sure what is the right information. I just need some help or clues as to what to look for specifically, because I don't really understand the whole process.
