Why can't America beat Libya when it was able to beat the Third Reich decades ago?

The United States is not trying to defeat Libya but backing the rebels. If we went into there or any country just as soon as the first innocent citizen died the Press and the world would be complaining.Add that to the fact most of the world as far as the wars in the middle east they take the Muslims word over ours and they Hate us because we support Israel.
